CoterieShare helps small private circles of friends run errands for one another. This policy explains what information the app collects, why, who can see it, and the choices you have. We've tried to keep it plain.
Who we are
CoterieShare (the "app") is operated by Jeffrey Kim Hunt, based in Utah, USA. When this policy says "we" or "us," it means Jeffrey Kim Hunt. If you have any questions or want to exercise your privacy rights, contact us at feedback@coterieshare.com.
Information we collect
We only collect what the app needs to work. That falls into a few groups:
Information you give us
- Account details — your email address, display name, and (optionally) a profile photo.
- Home address — optional. You can add a home address so circle members can deliver to you, and you control whether it's shared using a privacy toggle. If you leave it off, it isn't shared.
- Payment handles — optional. You can save your Venmo username and/or Zelle contact so others know where to send payment. We do not process payments or move money. Any payment happens directly between you and the other person in Venmo, Zelle, or whatever you arrange — outside the app.
- Photos — if you attach a photo to a request (for example, a picture of the item you want), we store it so the runner can see it.
- Messages and request details — the errands, items, notes, and chat messages you send to others in your circles.
Information we collect as you use the app
- Location — when you go "live" to a store or use features that detect when you've arrived at or left a location, the app uses your device's location. This is described in its own section below.
- Activity — errands you've run or requested, store-visit frequency (used to sort the stores you visit most to the top), and a positive-only reputation indicator.
- Push notification token — a device identifier provided by Apple/Expo that lets us send you push notifications (for example, "your order is ready"). It does not identify you by name.
- Basic technical data — limited device and app information needed to keep the service running and fix problems.
How we use your information
- To run the core features — going live, requesting and fulfilling errands, deliveries and pickups, and the Coterie Board of standing needs.
- To show the right people the right information within your private circles.
- To send notifications you've asked for, such as request updates and reminders.
- To sort stores and surface nearby drink shops and locations relevant to you.
- To maintain account security and prevent abuse.
We do not use your information for advertising, and we do not sell it.
Location, specifically
Location is only used while you're actively using location features — for example, when you go live to a store or when the app checks whether you've arrived or left. You can turn off location permission at any time in your device settings; some features won't work without it, but the rest of the app will.
When you go live, members of your circle can see that you're at or heading to a store so they can request items. Your continuous, precise location is not broadcast to others outside of these features, and it is not shared with advertisers.
How information is shared
CoterieShare is built around sharing within your circles — that's the point of the app. Beyond that, sharing is limited:
- With members of your circles — the people you've connected with can see the information needed to help each other: your display name, requests, relevant live status, shared delivery address (only if you've toggled it on), payment handles you've added, and messages you send them.
- With service providers who run the app for us — we use trusted third parties to operate CoterieShare:
- Supabase — database, authentication, and photo storage.
- Expo / Apple Push Notification service — delivering push notifications.
- Apple — if you choose Sign in with Apple, Apple handles your login.
- Map and location search services (including OpenStreetMap data) — to find nearby stores and drink shops.
These providers only handle data to provide their service to us.
- For legal reasons — if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, and property of our users or the public.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
Data retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the app. When you delete your account, we delete or de-identify your personal information, except where we're required to keep limited records for legal or security reasons. Photos and request data tied to deleted accounts are removed as part of this process.
Your choices and rights
- Profile controls — you can edit or remove your home address, payment handles, and profile photo in the app, and use the address-sharing toggle to control visibility.
- Permissions — you can turn location, notifications, photo access, and camera access on or off in your device settings.
- Access, correction, and deletion — you can request a copy of your data, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it by contacting feedback@coterieshare.com.
Depending on where you live (for example, California and certain other U.S. states), you may have additional rights to access, delete, or limit the use of your personal information. We honor these requests regardless of where you live — just reach out.
Deleting your account
You can delete your CoterieShare account and associated personal data from within the app. You can also email us at feedback@coterieshare.com and we'll handle the deletion for you.
Security
We use industry-standard measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit and access controls on our backend. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to safeguard your data and limit who can see it.
Children's privacy
CoterieShare is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us at feedback@coterieshare.com and we'll delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. When we make material changes, we'll update the effective date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
